Pistachio Recall

If you’re a pistachio lover, you’ll want to take note of a Salmonella-related recall of certain pistachios produced by Wonderful Pistachios. So far 11 people have been linked to a multi-state outbreak of salmonella. This is a voluntary recall by Wonderful Pistachios, based in California, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on today.

States where illness has been reported include Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Arizona, Michigan, North Dakota, Connecticut, Washington, and Minnesota. 2 of the 11 reported cases of contamination illness resulted in hospitalization.

Three brand names are affected by this pistachio recall: Wonderful, Trader Joe’s, and Paramount Farms. These brands are popular so it is important to make sure to check your packages for the dates and code numbers listed at www.fda.gov.

Salmonella contamination can lead to serious infections and weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, nausea, abdominal pain, and more. Young children and elderly people can be more at-risk of life-altering injuries.

This is the fourth pistachio recall in 2016.
